Admissions Process

General Admissions Policy

Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School operates under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. Pursuant to the stewardship-based model of Catholic education as adopted by the Diocese of Wichita, Kapaun Mt. Carmel offers admission to diocesan Catholic high school students who are:

  • an active member of his or her parish;

  • committed to the stewardship spirituality adopted by his or her parish; and

  • sponsored by his or her pastor to be a student at KMC.

Preference will be given to students who meet all the above criteria, as well as all deadlines for application, placement testing and fees.

Due to increasing class sizes, priority for admission will be given in this order: (1) to Catholic students who have attended a Catholic school for three or more years, (2) to students who have attended a Catholic school for less than three years, (3) to Catholic students who have never attended a Catholic school, (4) to non-Catholic students.

Final decisions about admission are determined by the high school in consultation with the pastors, except for those students who have been expelled. Students will be formally notified of their acceptance into Kapaun Mt. Carmel if all elementary school and parish requirements have been met. However, the high schools may also issue a conditional acceptance where circumstances warrant.

High school students from other faith traditions may also be admitted to Kapaun Mt. Carmel at the discretion of the KMC administration, provided all Catholic students who meet the criteria above have been served.

Admissions Application

Students who are promoted to Kapaun Mt. Carmel from a parish-based school within the Wichita diocese will receive their admissions and enrollment information and documentation from their school during their 8th grade year.  Other students who desire admission into Kapaun Mt. Carmel may call the school to receive admissions application documentation and other important information concerning admissions and enrollment.  All students must submit to Kapaun Mt. Carmel an official transcript from their immediately prior school to show their qualification for enrollment in the grade level into which they seek admission.

Admissions Process for Non-Feeder School and Transfer Applicants

Students who are not currently enrolled in a diocesan parish grade school, attend another high school or are new to the diocese are considered transfer students. We consider transfer students for admission on a case-by-case basis. Our Admissions Committee meets on a regular basis to review applications.

If you have any questions about transfer admission, please email Michelle Olson  or (316) 634-0135, ext. 150. You may schedule a tour of our school at any point during the process or simply to learn more about KMC, also by contacting Michelle Olson.

To be considered for admission to KMC, please submit the following items in a single envelope and mail/deliver to Michelle Olson. Applicants will not be considered until all items are submitted.

  • Completed Application Form

  • $150 Application Fee (checks made payable to Kapaun Mt. Carmel)

  • Most Recent Transcript

  • Current Schedule of Courses and Grades

After we receive these items, we will contact you to schedule an interview. Your student will complete an introductory interview with an administrator and counselor.

Following your interview, our Admissions Committee will review your application to finalize a decision. Acceptance can be issued contingent upon health updates, immunizations and completion of any other mandates (final semester grades, probationary status acceptance, behavioral contract) if needed.

If a shadow day would be helpful in your decision-making process, your student may spend a half or full day with a current KMC student. Your shadow day can be for the entire length of our school day (7:50 am - 3:00 pm), or for a half day, to be released around lunchtime. We will set up shadow visits on most Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, beginning mid-September through mid-May. Due to schedule disruptions, programs or other interruptions to a normal school day, we will reserve some days as non-shadow days.

When you arrive for your shadow visit, we will introduce you to an ambassador student, who will be your host for your shadow day. You will not be allowed to participate in P.E., but you will be an active participant in other classes. You will be able to enjoy lunch with our students in our fantastic cafeteria. The cost of your lunch will be about $5.00, and you will be able to pay at the register in the lunch line.

To set up a shadow day, please contact Nicole Spiers, Registrar, (316) 634-0315 or Email Nicole Spiers.

International Program

Thank you for considering Kapaun Mt. Carmel for your education in the United States!

As a diocesan Catholic high school, our primary concern is our local students. However, each year we typically welcome 10 international students to KMC and our school is greatly enriched by their presence.

It is important to note that two criteria must be met by international students for consideration. First, students must be Catholic. KMC is a Catholic school first and foremost. International students who have no introduction to the Catholic faith struggle with our religious nature and requirements. Secondly, KMC does not have an English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) program. Therefore, students must have very high scores on English proficiency exams and must be able to understand, speak, read, and write English very well. KMC does not have the capability to teach ESL. Some indication that a student is Catholic and that a student is proficient in English is required.

KMC does not have a dormitory, nor do we offer placement services for international students. We prefer to work with agencies and require that the agency have local representation. The agency is responsible for homestay vetting and selection as well as any compensation to the host family.

KMC operates on a semester system, with two semesters per school year. The first semester begins in August. We only accept international students for an August start date. We do not accept international students for a January start date.

Tuition for all international students is US $10,500, including book and technology fees, and an application and registration fee.  This is an annual cost.  Kapaun Mt. Carmel does not offer financial aid or scholarships of any kind.

To be considered for admission and for KMC to issue an I-20 visa request, the following items are required:

  • Student's transcript from their current school

  • English proficiency test results

  • Color copy of student’s passport

  • Date of birth

  • Home address in home country

  • Address where they will be staying in Wichita, Kansas, while attending KMC

To begin the application process, you may send those documents to Michelle Olson, Dean of Students, via email.

We are now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year.
